Operation Shoebox has made many shipments of medical and dental items,
school supplies/equipment,and
construction supplies, as well as shoeboxes filled with items for children, to Honduras
over the past 16 years.
It is accomplished in two ways: 1) By applying for extra space on military AF Reserve
transports (Denton Humanitarian Program) and 2)Shipping in 40 ft. ocean going containers.
There is no charge on the first method but the entire process can take 4-5 months. The
second method costs $4200-$4700/container but takes only 4-5 weeks.
Here are some of the long time recipients, most of which are in Tegucigalpa:
Cancer Center -

between the personnel working here with a number of medical personnel from the

dental, and construction teams doing mission work in Honduras. It also supports those

two days a week doing "Healing the Children" work there and send many kids to the
U.S. for care unavailable in Honduras. The founders are Dr. Saul and Dr. Lilia
DeLarios who are native Hondurans involved with much charitable work in their
country.
Alternativos y Opportunidades -
a Rotary initiated organization with several projects
focused on supporting children's health, education (including scholarships),
and trying to help protect them from the dangers of the streets of Tegucigalpa.
Operation Shoebox is funding a teacher for this program, which focuses on the
children of the mothers working in the city markets.
Casa Asti -

at-risk street children.
